Whether you're relocating, selling a car to someone out of state, or sending a vehicle to a college student, this service takes much of the hassle out of the process. But what exactly is door-to-door auto transport, and why might it be the best choice for you?
Door-to-door auto transport is a vehicle shipping service where a door to door auto transport carrier picks up your vehicle from a location of your choice (usually your home or a nearby address) and delivers it as close as possible to your specified destination. This is different from terminal-to-terminal shipping, where you’re required to drop off and pick up the vehicle at predetermined shipping terminals.
With door-to-door service, the shipping company handles almost everything related to the transportation, so you don’t have to worry about traveling to drop off or retrieve your vehicle.
How Does It Work?
Request a Quote: The process begins when you contact a car transport company and provide details like your car’s make and model, pickup and delivery locations, and preferred transport dates. You’ll receive a price estimate based on those factors.
Schedule Pickup: Once you accept the quote, the company schedules a pickup time. The driver will arrive at the agreed-upon location—this could be your home, workplace, or any place where the carrier has legal and safe access.
Vehicle Inspection and Pickup: The driver performs a detailed inspection of the vehicle to document its condition before transport. You’ll receive a copy of this inspection report. After that, the car is loaded onto the trailer.
Transport: Your vehicle is transported across the agreed route. Throughout the journey, you may receive updates from the shipping company, depending on their policy.
Delivery: Once the vehicle arrives near the destination, the carrier will contact you to arrange a drop-off. If your street is not suitable for large trucks (due to size restrictions, low-hanging trees, narrow roads, etc.), the driver may ask you to meet at a nearby parking lot or open area.
