Why Should We All Be Like Jesus Christ?

In a world that often celebrates personal ambition, self-reliance, and status, the call to be like Jesus Christ can feel both radical and countercultural. But for those of us who believe in Christ and truly follow Him, the call to Christlikeness is essential. Being like Jesus is the core p

But why exactly should we strive to be like Jesus Christ?

First, because Jesus is the perfect example of God’s will on earth. Every action, every word that Jesus spoke, every act of kindness, and every prayer moment were all direct reflections of the Father's heart. In Jesus, we see what perfect love looks like. We see humility, truth, forgiveness, obedience, and holiness wrapped in human flesh.

Second, we should strive to be like Him because our identity is found in Him. The Apostle Paul writes, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). The goal of faith is not only salvation — it’s transformation. To be conformed into the image of Christ is to become more loving, more patient, more courageous, more obedient, and more holy.

A life that mirrors Jesus also impacts the world. Jesus didn’t just speak about the truth and wisdom of God. He lived it. He forgave the unforgivable. He served others, even when He deserved to be served. He worshiped the Father in spirit and truth. And in doing so, He changed hearts and cultures. Being like Jesus means we carry that same power to love, lead, and lift others. It is about being empathetic and kind to others and to seek forgiveness from God. It is about serving humanity, and to cherish and chant the word of God.

This is where Worship: The Pursuit of His Presence by Apostle H. Daniel Wilson becomes a powerful guide. The book doesn’t simply teach about worship. Instead, it draws us closer to Jesus. Every chapter reminds us that being like Christ begins with spending time in the presence of the Father, just as Jesus did. He constantly withdrew to pray, to seek, and to surrender.

Wilson invites us to develop that same rhythm. By putting this book into practice and applying its lessons to our everyday lives, we can cultivate a private life of devotion that eventually transforms the public. He writes, “Worship is not what we do; it’s who we become.” And that’s the key. When we worship consistently, we become more like the One we worship.

The book also points out that Jesus didn’t live a life of comfort. He lived a life of calling. If we are to be like Him, we must be willing to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). That means choosing grace over revenge, truth over popularity, and obedience over convenience.

Becoming like Jesus is not something that happens overnight. It’s a lifelong journey, one day and one worship session at a time. That’s why Wilson’s call to a daily pursuit of God’s presence is so timely. Worship softens the heart, renews the mind, and realigns our priorities with the Kingdom.

So why should we all be like Jesus Christ? Because the world doesn’t just need more information or chaos. Rather, it needs more transformation. And it begins with us.

If you’re ready to become more like Christ in your character, your walk, and your worship, I urge you to read Worship: The Pursuit of His Presence. Let it challenge you, stretch you, and draw you nearer to the Savior. The more time you spend in His presence, the more you’ll reflect His nature. And in doing so, you’ll not only change your own life, you’ll begin to change the world around you.
